On April 17, 2024, the National Assembly issued the Draft Law on Juvenile Justice, drafted by the Standing Committee of the National Assembly.
The draft has some main points such as:
- The draft stipulates on diversionary handling for juvenile offenders; penalties and procedures for juveniles; community reintegration and victim support; duties, powers, and responsibilities of agencies, organizations, and individuals in juvenile justice activities.
- This draft aims to protect the rights and best interests of juveniles; ensure the handling of juveniles is appropriate to their age, cognitive ability, personal characteristics, and the dangerousness to society of the offense.
- The draft also aims to educate, assist juveniles to correct mistakes, improve behavior, and become useful citizens for society.
